Horsemanship Camp
Our Horsemanship Camp is open to all levels of riders, ages 5 -- 18. Participants ride in groups that are organized according to equine experience in order to enhance learning for all.
In addition to receiving English riding instruction, participants learn about ...
-
Grooming the horse
-
Horse handling
-
Stable management
-
Barn safety
-
Equine first aid and emergency care

At Furnace Brook Farm, we are dedicated to providing rewarding experiences to everyone. Our campers receive the individual attention and instruction they need to keep safe and to grow a lifelong love of horses and riding.
On the final day of camp week, families are invited to visit the farm for a special horse show to see what their campers have learned.
Our Staff
The team at Furnace Brook Farm Horsemanship Camp includes an experienced staff with a passion for horses and the knowledge to teach campers in a safe, fun and educational atmosphere. Furnace Brook Farm is proud to be a licensed camp through the State of Massachusetts and the Town of Marshfield.

Camp director and owner of Furnace Brook Farm, Erin Van Steenburgh, is a two time national riding champion and licensed riding instructor. She is joined by co-camp leader Kate Daly, also a licensed riding instructor and three time junior world dressage champion.
Counselors and junior counselors are students and former campers of Erin's who are enthusiastic and accomplished equestrians. Each counselor completes a training program prior to working with campers. CPR certification and First Aid training is included as part of pre-camp training for the camp director and counselors.
The ratio of campers to staff is 3 to 1.
2022 Camp Schedule & Cost
Weekly camp sessions are scheduled throughout the summertime:
June 27 -- July 1, 2022
July 11 -- 15, 2022
July 18 -- 22, 2022
August 1 - 5, 2022 * (SEE NOTE BELOW)
August 8 - 11, 2022 * (SEE NOTE BELOW)
Camp days begin at 9am and close at 12pm. Please arrange for your camper to arrive and depart according to this schedule. As Furnace Brook Farm is a working barn and our staff is obligated to additional responsibilities after camp hours, we are unable to provide supervision outside of these times.
Registration per weekly session is $350. A $100 deposit is required to reserve a spot. If you prefer to enroll in camp by the day (vs. weekly sessions) the fee is $70 per day.
* NOTE ABOUT AUGUST SESSIONS: Both will have the same curriculum so a camper should only attend one session. The focus of these camp sessions is social skills, using the horses to work on these skills. Campers will ride each day. We will discuss the topic of body language - what it means, what it looks like (both in people and horses) and the importance of it. We will practice eye contact, the back-and-forth of conversation, taking turns, and expressing one's needs. All of this will be done using activities with the horses. This program is intended for verbal children who need practice with their social skills. These sessions are designed for for kids, not adults. We are working on future adult programming so stay tuned! If you have any questions regarding the suitability of these sessions for your child, please contact Erin (erinfbf@gmail.com).
